****Expanded Summer School Options ****

Know Your Options

You asked and we heard you!  This summer, high school students have multiple options for gaining or recovering credit.

  • Face-to-Face Courses allow students to choose one of a limited selection of courses to take in a traditional classroom setup during a 3-hour session lasting 6 weeks.
  • Virtual Courses provide additional flexibility (more courses offered, and students choose whether to come in to a summer school site for access to computers and teachers with content expertise, or to take the course on their own time in their own space.  2 virtual providers are offering classes.
    • Fulton Virtual School (FVS) is the district's online campus, taught by our teachers, with core academic offerings and a few electives.
    • Georgia Virtual School (GAVS) is the state's online campus, offering a broad array of courses taught by various certified teachers.

Select the Best Summer School Experience for You

  • Not sure which to pick?  Take a look at the decision tree and let us help.

Register for Your Course(s).  It is as easy as 1, 2, 3...

  1. Submit the Summer School Registration Form* to indicate contact information and preferences.
  2. Get course approval from your counselor.  This occurs automatically if you are registering for Face-to-Face or Fulton Virtual courses.  If you are registering for a GAVS course, you will need to follow the instructions for GAVS registration and then wait for course approval.  Please allow at least 3-4 business days from the time when you submit your course request (via registration form or GAVS process) for approval and notification.
  3. Pay for approved course(s).  Once your courses are approved, you will receive an e-mail with instructions for making your tuition payment.  Once you complete this steps, you will be enrolled in your course(s) and receive a welcome e-mail with any relevant face-to-face site or FVS/GAVS log-in and orientation details.  Please note that payment instructions for summer school courses will begin to be e-mailed on or around May 1st.

*If you are taking a GAVS course that is not on the summer school course list (as an FCS designated Georgia Virtual Summer School Course) and you are not attending a summer school site for additional support, you can skip step 1.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: What can I expect at a Summer School site in the labs (for students taking virtual courses)?

A. The labs will have several types of support available (e.g., computers, teachers).  Teachers certified in the content area (e.g., math, science) related to your course(s) who are familiar enough with the online curriculum and systems to help you navigate them, will be on-hand each day to assist with working through difficult questions/problems, one-on-one or small group instruction, and connecting with virtual teachers as necessary.  They can also help you monitor your own progress and find additional resources to use when you are away from the site (e.g., working from home).  It is highly recommended that you treat this like a class and attend each day.

Q: Can I take a GAVS Summer Course not designated on the FCS Summer School Course List?

A: Yes.  However, these courses are not included in the FCS summer program, and are subject to regular GAVS pricing ($250/ .5 credit course).

Q: If I have already paid for a GAVS course that is on the designated summer school course list, can I still  take advantage of the reduced price?

A: Yes.  If you alert your counselor, he/she can change your registration with GAVS to reflect your participation in summer school.  You will receive a full refund of your original payment and the instructions needed to pay FCS the reduced rate.  Note: This will only be the case up until the end of the  registration period on May 24.

Q: How do I pay and what is the refund policy for summer school?

A: An online payment link for making credit card payments will be e-mailed once Face-to-face, Fulton Virtual or designated Georgia Virtual Summer School course(s) are approved.  See your home scohol counselor if you need an alternative payment method (i.e., check, money order).  Full refunds for HS summer school will be available by request (to virtualcampus@fultonschools.org)  through May 23 and partial refunds (fees minus processing charge) can be requested through the first day of summer classes.  There will be no refunds after the first day of summer classes.  Georgia Virtual provides its own online payment instructions and refund policy.
